Kyles’ Files – God Said It, I Believe It, That Settles It

This week at Covenant is the 5th of 6 in a sermon series entitled, “
½ Truths: “God Said It, I Believe It, That Settles It.”

Some of us have heard this saying for many years! Geeee! We just have to ask ourselves: What DID God say?”

We turn to the Scriptures as direction for this week: Leviticus 19:9-10; II Timothy 3:16; Mark 12:28-34.

Like it was yesterday, 1966, I was 12 years old in the 6th Grade at Balfour School, North Asheboro, NC. Mrs. Campbell, our teacher, spent no-little-time with us that April 15th about a current issue happening in our town.

A group of folks had been studying the Book of Revelation. They decided, from conclusions of their study, that Jesus was going to return on April 15th, 1966, in Asheboro(no less!). They quit their jobs at the mill, sold their belongings, and went to the old state fairgrounds on Highway 64 near Asheboro High School to wait for Jesus to come.

Their reading of Scripture was predicated by a similar sentence such as this ½ truth: God Said It, I Believe It, That Settles It.”

To say: what DID God say, in this case, in and through Holy Scripture? Let’’s talk about it Sunday, 9th.

More to come.
See you Sunday.
